What's new in Whistler
The Winter Olympics in 2010 may have finished months ago but it has left a legacy of new buildings and fabulous facilities for the visiting skiers. Here's just a few of the good stuff on offer...
Public ride program at Whistler Sliding Centre
From December 2010 it will be possible to take a ride in a piloted 4-man bobsleigh and a solo skeleton down the fastest, most technical course in the world - the venue played host to the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events during the 2010 Winter Games. The ride and training takes about two and a half hours and bookings are taken for the afternoons only. Prices from $200Cdn for bobsleigh and $120Cdn for the skeleton experience. Go on - give it a try, someone once said you should do at least one thing every day that scares you !
Whistler Athletes' Centre
Including the Athletes Lodge and High Performance Training Centre is open for athletes and coaches, with 194 beds. This is one of the many legacies from the Olympic Games in 2010, for more information go to www.wsl2010.com
Improvements to Terrain parks
On the Nintendo Terrain Park work is being carried out to add a super-sized superpipe to the great mix of park options. They are widening and straightening the fall-line to give better riding and to accommodate the 22-foot Global Pipe Cutter.
