Ski insurance - totally critical but not the most interesting of subjects. Ski travel insurance company, Hiscox, have made a nice little infographic to liven up the topic, and impart some good geeky ski facts as well as some hints and tips on staying safe on the slopes.

There’s been fresh snow in the Alps over the weekend according to reports on skiinfo.co.uk.

Powder alarms for more than 20cm (eight inches) of new snow in 24 hours were generates by still-open ski areas from north-to-south and east-to-west of Europe’s main ski mountain range – good news for anyone still planning to hit the slopes at one of the several hundred ski areas still open.

Here are five of our favourite films from this season, and one of a snowboarding opossum. What even is an opossum? Read on to find out

1. Snowboarding in an LED suit

Put your headphones on, put the video on full screen, and enjoy - this is a beautiful little film that we came across by complete chance while having a MadDogSki meeting in a pub. The people at the next table were watching this on their laptop, and we were transfixed.

Out comes the sun, and everyone goes a little bit crazy in the mountains. Suddenly just skiing or snowboarding seems a bit last month, and instead schemes are devised to make the downhill route a bit more exciting, dangerous and flamboyant. Check out three of our favourite unusual things going on in the mountains this spring

We reckon this is the best suncream for skiing.

It's not something you usually get excited about; in fact it's usually something you begrudge paying too much for, forget to put on, suffer awkward leaks or spillages, and then wash off by mistake in a slush tumble. It's suncream - absolutely critical for spring skiing, but not an awful lot of fun.

It’s not been your average ski season for snow fall – if there ever is such a thing.  The Alps had record breaking snow in January and February but it has been very warm in March.  In North America, California, which had a great winter last year, had very little snow this ski season until recently and on the East Coast temperatures in the 80s Farenheit has decimated the snow at normally snowsure resorts in Vermont and Quebec.

So where’s still good?

Many of the world’s lower altitude ski areas have closed a week or two early as record-breaking warm temperatures in March in large parts of Europe and North America – approaching the high 80s Farenheit/20s Celcius has led to melt down on their slopes.  At the same time the summer-like weather has meant many people have turned early to biking and golf.

Which is better, France or Austria? Sure, variety is the spice of life, but mostly because you can use it to inspire vigorous arguments over strongly held preferences.

MadDogSki's founder Kate is a long-time fan of France, while Austria has my heart (and a down-payment on my liver, probably). Want to get your tuppence-worth in? Answer our straw-poll here

Kate, what's so good about France?
