Go home to the mountains this winter

Posted by Duncan Newbury 20th January 2012

Hello, and thanks to our friends at MadDogSki for asking us to blog from the Serre Chevalier valley this season.

John Muir said “The mountains are calling and I must go”, and it's fantastic to see that skiers and snowboarders share Muir's vision, not letting the financial doom and gloom prevent them from getting out and enjoying the mountains. Once the snow had arrived this season, with two massive storms before Christmas, we were inundated with enquiries and bookings for holidays.

Chalet, Serre Chevalier, FranceAt a time when there is less money about, we are happy in Serre Chevalier to be able to offer one of the best value resorts in the Alps – sorry for the shameless plug, but its true! A case in point was the fantastic burger and chips washed down with a hot chocolate with rum that I had on the hill for just 13 Euros the other day; head to Le Relais du Ratier above Chantemerle if you fancy sampling this gastronomic treat too :-)

Serre Chevalier at dawn, January 2012Every morning the view from our balcony inspires us for the day ahead, and all our guests so far this season have arrived in the valley excited to make the most of the fantastic mountain environment. We'll be blogging through the season, letting you know what new and exciting things are going on out here. But, until our next post, make sure you get out to the hills this winter because, to quote Muir again, “Going to the mountains is going home.”
