When not skiing, you’ll usually find me…

I’ve been a bit rubbish on the old blog front, mainly because I haven’t been skiing. The week before last was ridiculously cold; I’d never felt temperatures like it. There were big signs at the bottom of chair lifts warning that the temperature at the top was a death defying minus 25 degrees. When presented with such information, what do you do? Turn around and go home? Or wonder what minus 25 degrees feels like? So on the lift we went and regretted it after about 0.7 seconds.
The following week was English half term – a time of dread for local people. Because we’re all a bit spoilt out here it’s fair to say that we pick and choose our ski days and February half term is always a no no. I did have one afternoon on Mont Chery, a secret spot in Les Gets, which I will no doubt be crucified for sharing with the group. Mont Chery is amazing in powder and the lift queues are always smaller than everywhere else.
This week I’ve been spending quite a bit of time exploring Avoriaz on foot. It’s still French holidays so there’s a great atmosphere up there. I’m particularly loving the sunny terrace outside Le Fantastique on the main street in Avoriaz for après drinks and a great play d’jour. The Office de Tourisme in Avoriaz organise loads of events each week and you can grab a full programme from the tourist office.
Now the sun is shining, the snow is great and the mountains are emptying out a bit. I feel a big adventure coming on!
