Hintertux — On the piste

Hintertux is definitely a skiers resort and experts will love the variety of steeps and seemingly endless off-piste on a powder day. The three-stage ‘glacier bus’ cable car is a superb modern development that allows skiers to access the perennial snowfields of this magnificent area in under twenty minutes from the valley floor. It does get very busy though at times of poor snowfall as everyone heads up to Tux from the surrounding lower-level resorts.
 
When snow conditions are good there are over 200km of non-glacial skiing available from the villages of the Tuxertal, and new fast lifts from Vorderlanersbach in recent years have linked effectively in to the upper slopes of Mayrhofen. Snowboarders and may find these lower levels more enjoyable than the glacier with fewer drag lifts, and novice skiers are better catered for too as there are some excellent nursery areas and weather conditions are likely to be more favourable for learning.
