Mayrhofen — Planning your trip
It's easy to get to Mayrhofen, with Innsbruck airport just an hour away - 76km - by car or train. The Zillertalbahn offers easy access up and down the valley and Salzburg (Austria) and Munich (Germany) airports are also close by.
Flying
Mayrhofen sits just 76km from Innsbruck airport, which is now served by EasyJet from Bristol, Liverpool and London Gatwick, making it one of the easiest resorts to get to and a popular short break choice. The transfer is actually quite human too, and flying in to Innsbruck airport after recent snow is an experience in itself! But if you can’t find flights to Innsbruck consider looking at Salzburg (Austria) and Munich (Germany).
Driving
The road transfer is just under an hour travelling northwest from Innsburck on the E60 before turning due south at Jenbach into the Ziller valley. Transferring from Salzburg or Munich should take just under two hours. There are plenty of hire car companies at all of these airports and the roads all the way to resort are excellent (no mountain passes to contend with) but parking can be a nightmare.
Self-driving is one way to beat high flight prices but the journey from Calais is 1100km and will take around 11 hours. Just beyond Reims you will need to join the motorways heading East towards Strasbourg, Stuttgart and then on to Munich. If you're going to drive make sure to book accommodation with parking.
Train
The narrow gauge Zillertalbahn railway serves the Ziller valley from Jenbach in the north all the way to Mayrhofen in the south, making it easy to travel to Mayrhofen by train. The rail journey to resort from Innsbruck takes just over an hour and a half and requires a change at Jenbach.
There are also plenty of mainline trains between either Salzburg or Munich and Innsbruck or Jenbach.
You can get to Mayrhofen by train thanks to the Eurostar service to Paris and easy onward connections to Zurich and Innsbruck. This option can be economical, especially when flight prices go up in high-season, but it is quite a trek.
