Whistler — Canada

Compare this resort

Whistler Blackcomb is one of the most well known ski resorts in the entire world. Each winter more and more British skiers are choosing Whistler Blackcomb over closer European resorts. Why would you pay for the extra flight, burn up those carbon credits and face the crowds at 8.30am? The snow. Quite simply the snow record of the Pacific Northwest, and in Whistler, is on level unprecedented in Europe. Add that to a fully developed resort town with all the services and activities you could ever dream of and a service attitude that puts Europe to shame and you begin to get the picture.

Skiing from November to June

The ski season in Whistler Blackcomb is one of the longest in the world. Typically the mountains will open in mid-November with riding all the way through until the end of May. Then in the summer Blackcomb re-opens for a spot of summer glacier riding.

High quality instruction

Expert skiers will love the extent of the terrain on offer, novices will be equally impressed with the high standard of instruction in English, and snowboarders will be only too aware of the Blackcomb Nintendo terrain parks.

Whistler village is for people not cars!

Whistler Village is the central point and home to most restaurants and shops whilst Upper Village at the base of Blackcomb Mountain is quieter and home to plenty of exclusive hotels. The pedestrian-only village bustles all winter long and is particularly magical over the festive season.

What's new in Whistler for 2010/2011

Following on from the hosting of the Olympic Games in 2010, there are some great new facilities in Whistler which visitors can benefit from. See what's new for Whistler 2010/11 season...

  1. Skiing the 'Peak to Creek'; a 5020ft vertical drop through seven kilometers of varying terrain.
  2. Trying an exhilarating dog sledding tour. Fun for all the family; the dogs' enthusiasm is infectious.
  3. Rising early for a Fresh Tracks Breakfast - be first up the mountain and enjoy a huge buffet breakfast.
  4. Exploring Blackcomb Mountain on Canada's favourite winter invention, the snowmobile.
  5. Feasting on local delicacies at Araxi, the Rimrock Cafe or Bearfoot Bistro.

Feel the love

Cinnamon hearts, warm fuzzy feelings and the colour red, from time immemorial that's Valentine's Day. Besides the chocolate the best part of this day is it's a day to acknowledge love.

What happens when someone snowboards over your hand...

I had a great plan for blogs this week. First I was going to write about rolling back into life as a full-time instructor for the first time in years. Then, best of all, transcribe my trip to Mt Baker to race in the Banked Slalom, one of the oldest still-running snowboard competitions. How does that saying go? The best laid plans of mice and men, often go astray?
