Whistler — Things to do

There's more to do in this ski resort than most small towns in the UK! If you are here for longer than a week it is worth taking a day off. All lift tickets for two days or longer allow a rest day - for example an eight-day pass is valid for nine days with one day off. It's best to book activities in advance if you can though.

Activities in Whistler

Whistler boasts a huge number of active pursuits to keep you entertained off the mountain. If you fancy zipline eco tours they have it. Snowmobiling or dog sledding, it's there. Snowshoeing, sleigh rides, snowcat tours, helicopter rides? It's all there. Take a look at the drop down menu below and the official website for a list of everything on offer.

Relaxation

Obviously being a luxury resort there are plenty of spas, gyms and pools in the ski resort. If you need a little pampering, or just want to soothe those aching muscles you will be taken care of. Take a look at the drop down menu below and the official website to find a list of spas and pools.

Shopping in Whistler

Whistler is also a great place to do some shopping. Wintersports retailers shout the loudest but there are a range of boutiques and more cosmopolitan retailers at hand. Again, check the dropdown menu below and the official web site for more information.

Events in Whistler

As one of the world's biggest resorts, Whistler Blackcomb is host to some of the world's biggest and most diverse skiing and snowboarding events.

New year's eve celebrations

Whistler celebrates New Year's Eve in a big way. The First Night celebration is an alcohol free extravaganza that takes over the main Whistler Village square and provides a diverse selection of entertainment for all the family.

Whistler film festival

Whistler is party to its very own, fully fledged film festival. The event celebrated its 10th anniversary in December 2010. Traditionally it takes place over five days and features over 40 films. The festival includes a range of parties and attractions in addition to watching the films themselves.

WinterPRIDE festival

The festival is geared to both the gay and lesbian crowd with a diverse après-ski lineup rounding out the fun offerings for skiers and non-skiers alike.

Ski and snowboard competitions

Well, it would be hard to match 2010's Winter Olympic Games but Whistler Blackcomb does host ski and snowboard competitions throughout the winter. Everything from open entry snowboard rail jams to inter-university ski racing can be seen. The biggest event in the calendar has to be the Telus World Ski & Snowboard festival. In addition to the ski and snowboard action, the event boasts 'Canada's largest free outdoor concert series'.
