La Plagne — Things to do

La Plagne has lots going on to keep you entertained off the mountain. You can scare yourself silly on the Olympic bobsleigh course, take a ride in a husky sled or even drive a pistebasher or a skidoo!

Active la Plagne

La Plagne offers a wide variety of activities to try out, from cross-country skiing to ice-climbing, ski joering (being pulled by a horse!), skidooing, snowshoe walking, ice-skating and paragliding! Why not have a ride in a sled pulled by a team of huskies? (Available in Montalbert or on the Dou du Praz area between Bellecôte and Plagne Soleil.)

Or have you always wanted to drive a pistebasher? In Plagne Villages there is a track designed specifically for you to do so. The Salle Omnisports in Plagne Centre is the biggest of the gyms and fitness areas. They have an indoor climbing wall as well as regular games such as table tennis and volleyball. For something a little less energetic a visit to the ice grotto, carved out of the glacier, is worthwhile. There are several giant carvings of animals which are fairly impressive.

Olympic bobsleigh course

La Plagne is home to the only bobsleigh, luge and skeleton track in France and you're invited to have a go! Opened in 1992 for the Olympic Games, the track is still regularly used for competitions and training. While the pros charge head first down this ice tunnel at up to 134 km/hr, you'll probably be pleased to know that there are several less intimidating options. The most popular descent is in the Bob aft, which is a 4-person bob designed not to go above around 80 km/hr. This is a great family option and is enough to give you the screaming G-force of a jostling roller-coaster for the windy descent. The Taxi Bob is a faster option where a pro driver takes three passengers down. The ultimate daredevil ride is the Monobob which you ride solo!

Relax in La Plagne

There's plenty to do on down days or if you pick up a niggle – from beauty and health spas to ten-pin bowling and the cinema. There are three cinemas in la Plagne: in Plagne Centre, in Aime 2000 and in Bellecôte. Just be sure to check the weekly schedule for films that are VOST, which means the original version with French subtitles.

Several operators (such as Massage Me and Pamper off Piste) provide massage and beauty services in your accommodation.

La Gorzderette – Tour de Glace Nocturne

Non-skiers can still take various lifts up the mountain with a pedestrian pass. For 14 euros, the Glacier Pass allows you to go all the way up to the glacier and includes entry to the ice grotto which is normally around four euros per adult. There are also lots of pedestrian trails most of which double as cross country ski trails. Maps are available from the tourist offices.
