Les Arcs — Resort services
Everything you need is available in Les Arcs or nearby. You can expect to pay a premium for certain services because of the mountain location.
Cashpoints
There are cashpoints dotted around the resort (one in Arcs 1600, 1950 and 2000, and two in Arc 1800). There are even some actual banks but it is rare that they offer an exchange service so bring Euros with you, or use the cashpoints, or pay directly by card with suppliers.
Internet
Internet access is often available through the better accommodations and usually for free. You can also get free wifi in various restaurants, bars and cafés (with a purchase). Examples include the Bowling Bar in Arc 2000 and l'Ambiente Café and Chez Boubou in 1800. The whole of Arc 2000 now has a free wifi service if you are close enough to a transmitter. Les Arcs 1950 also has this facility but you will need a code from your reception.
Medical centres
There are medical centres in 1950, 1800 and 1600 and a hospital in Bourg St. Maurice. There are also vets based in Bourg if needed. The best pharmacies are in 1800 and 1600, with the “pharmastores” in 1950 and 2000 being better equipped to supply sunscreen than more potent drugs.
Supermarkets
There are mini supermarkets in each section of the resort but they are often closed in the early afternoon (1-3pm). They usually open early (around 7.30am) but may not stay open beyond about 7pm, even on Saturday night when many a hungry traveller arrives in resort.
Getting around resort
The best way for skiers to get around Les Arcs is... skiing. It will take much less time for example to ski from Arc 2000 to Arc 1800 than to take the free shuttle buses. Similarly for Peisey-Vallandry because you'd have to drive right down the mountain to come back up again. Timetables for the free resort shuttles are available on the tourist office website.
