Sainte Foy — France
Sainte Foy is the jewel in the crown of the Tarentaise region, a hidden gem that is surrounded by more illustrious neighbours. Though the resort itself was only built in 1990, the traditional style of chalets makes a change from the concrete architecture found in other resorts. The south-west facing bowl, complete with attractive restaurants and bars, is dominated by Mount Pourri. A lot of the accommodation is in chalets, and this is a popular destination for families, so don't expect much from the nightlife.
Skiers and boarders alike head to Sainte Foy (Sant fwa) from the bigger resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isere, attracted by the deep powder and short lift queues. Ski passes are affordable and slopes are uncrowded, whilst the area offers access to some of the world's best skiing in the six surrounding resorts of the Tarantaise valley. The closest airport is Chambery, about two hours away, whilst the snow train to Bourg St Maurice (25 minutes away) is a good option too.
Sainte Foy is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2010, read more...
