Val d'Isere — Where to stay

Val d’Isère has an enormous choice of accommodation, ranging from exclusive hotels to backpackers’ hostels, so you should be able to find something to suit your needs and budget.

A good proportion of the accommodation is ski in, ski out but even those that aren’t are never too far away from the slopes. For luxury take a look at Le Chardon Mountain Lodges or if you want to be close to the slopes consider La Daille, but for traditional mountain village charm head to Le Fornet.

Val d’Isère

There are three main villages to consider when planning your accommodation: Val d'Isère, La Daille and Le Fornet.

Val d’Isère itself is home to most of the resort activity and almost all the nightlife is concentrated between the first two roundabouts. In terms of accommodation, Val has had its share of less than attractive buildings but in the last few years the resort has initiated a refurbishment programme creating what is now a significantly improved ‘traditional’ ski town.

Le Blizzard is the pick of the hotels here and if it is luxury you’re after take a look at Le Chardon Mountain Lodges in the top end of La Legattaz area of Val. Scott Dunn’s chalets are also worth considering if you have the budget.

La Daille

Once just a farming commune, the village of La Daille now has several huge and some quite ugly apartment blocks and hotels. However the great thing about the village is its proximity to slopes, and it is a slightly cheaper alternative to Val which makes it a good option for families.

Le Fornet

At the other end of the valley is Le Fornet. Tight planning restrictions have been in place here for many years following a tragic avalanche, which nearly wiped out the whole village. Chalets in Le Fornet tend to be more upmarket and correspondingly more expensive.
