La Thuile — Italy
This former mining town has transformed itself into a modern and well-equipped resort offering skiers the chance to explore plenty of well groomed terrain with something to suit all abilities. Since 1986 visitors have been able to ski on both sides of the Franco-Italian border and to enjoy a great variety of mountain food influenced by both the Aosta valley and the French Tarentaise.
La Thuile is going from strength to strength with continued investment in its infrastructure, and recent developments sit comfortably alongside the old Aosta hamlets. The old military outposts and World War II relics on the slopes are a fascinating reminder that the area has seen a lot more than just winter sports. People with young children will love the convenience and facilities on offer and the kids will be fascinated by ‘Thuilly’, a massive Saint Bernard that roams the streets!
