Saas-Fee — Planning your trip
Most flights from the UK go to Geneva or Zurich, and these are the most popular options, at 140km and 145km away respectively, although Milan, Basel and Bern are also fairly close. The nearest airport is Sion but it is very small and has previously had extremely limited flights. Swissair has flights there from London every Saturday during the winter season. Snowjet have however announced a regular service throughout winter 09/10 to Sion with seats from £49. Frequent shuttle buses connect the airport to Saas-Fee in around an hour. The transfer time from Geneva is three and a half hours by road (slightly less by train) and closer to four hours from Zurich (three hours by train).
Although there isn't a station in Saas Fee, the train is a pleasant and environmentally friendly way to travel. Trains from London to Geneva (change in Paris) take around nine hours. Take the train to Brig or Visp and change to a post bus with the direct destination "Saas-Fee". There are hourly connections until 8.05pm from Brig and until 8.25pm from Visp. If you are considering driving all the way you should allow around 10 hours from Calais (3 hours from Geneva) and be prepared to put your car on a car-train to transport it through the Lotschberg Tunnel. Saas Fee is car-free, so you will have to pay to leave your car outside the village, and transfer your luggage either via electric taxi or handcart.
