Wengen — Planning your trip
Many UK airlines fly into Geneva, which has a transfer time of three hours by car or four hours by train. The other major Swiss airport is Zurich, which takes three hours, and the smaller Basel airport (two and a half hours) is now served by Easyjet. The closer local airport of Bern can only be reached from Birmingham and Southampton with Flybe or from London City but if you can fly to here you will save a lot of time on the transfer as the resort can be reached in around an hour.
There is very little point in renting a car to visit Wengen as it is a car free resort. You will only end up paying for parking and taking the train to resort, so save some money and just go by train from the airport or even all the way from the UK. Trains from London will take around 9 hours and you will need to change in Paris and in Geneva for Interlaken. Here you can join the narrow gauge BOB and WAB railways for Lauterbrunnen and Wengen (45 minutes from the mainline at Interlaken).
If you do bring a car as far as Lauterbrunnen, be it a hire car or your own, expect to pay quite a lot for parking and you will need to reserve at least 14 days in advance. The shuttle train from here to the resort costs around 6CHF each way. Driving from Calais will take around 8 hours via Strasbourg, Basel and Bern.
